I'm not immune to the notion that buying a certain item of clothing will change my life, transforming me into someone who is unfailingly self-respecting, productive, wise, and honest, who flosses and wears her mouthguard every night. This idea is, of course, a lie.
Still, it's the new year, so here are five items that I currently believe hold the secret to everything.
I probably love this sweater because my mom had a pet crow when she was young. It’s the kind of thing I can see wearing for 50 years straight.
In case you’re unfamiliar. By the way, if you enjoyed The Boy and the Heron and have a taste for chaotic lo-fi videos (think Emma Chamberlain’s editing style), I highly recommend the documentary Hayao Miyazaki and the Heron, which is now streaming on Max. It was filmed over many years and follows Miyazaki as he directs his masterpiece, alternating between humor and melancholy the whole way. On Thursday night, I took a hot shower, bundled up in a robe, and watched it on the couch while Alex made a spicy soup. A genuinely perfect evening.
Like that picture of Carla Sozzani (one half of Italy’s foremost fashion editor sister duo, with the late Franca Sozzani.)
Ideally something made by Haider Ackermann just for me.
Genuinely unsure what it would look like!
Delusionally yours,
